Dear Black Tie & Boots Ball Guests:

We are so delighted you will be joining us for this Texas-sized Presidential Inaugural Ball on January 19th! In order to make the Black Tie & Boots Ball as enjoyable as possible, we thought we'd pass along a few helpful suggestions prior to your arrival at the Marriott Wardman Park. The ball will begin at 7:00pm and last until 2:00am.

  • DON'T FORGET YOUR TICKET -- YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED WITHOUT IT! To save time at check-in, have your ticket in your hand or an easily accessible pocket with the top stub information already completed for the Suburban drawing. Once you've received your credential band, please visit the Texas Fair to register for the Suburban. The receptacle for ticket stubs will be located downstairs next to the Suburban outside the Exhibition Hall.

  • We all know how dreadful coat check lines can be. We have done our best to provide an adequate number of attendants and space to accommodate all of our guest's coats and the attendants will work as efficiently as possible. However, it is our recommendation you leave your coats at home or in your car to minimize the extra number of steps you must take before you are able to enjoy the party.

  • Remember to bring cash for purchasing drink tickets and shopping at the Texas Fair & Marketplace. There will be plenty of tempting things to buy from our 50 vendors that night from 6:00 PM until 2:00 AM. If you'd rather visit the Fair during the day, it will be open on Friday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Some booths may accept credit cards, so feel free to bring your Visa, Mastercard or American Express for these purchases. If you would like to pre-purchase drink tickets call the hotel directly at 202.745.6960.

  • Due to both limited parking and limited hotel drop-off space, all guests are being advised to use the Metro if at all possible. The hotel is sold out for that weekend, so parking at the hotel will not be available. A shuttle bus service will run from the National Zoo parking lot to the hotel. However, the space at that lot is very limited and will fill up quickly. With the number of guests expected to attend, the maneuvering of taxicabs and limousines to drop-off guests will be a cumbersome task. The hotel will do its best to direct cars in an efficient manner, but the process may still take an exorbitant amount of time. The Woodley Park Metro stop is conveniently located less than half a block from the hotel entrance. We are currently seeking other parking venues so check the Texas State Society web site (texasstatesociety.org) for last minute parking news. Otherwise, the Metro is your best bet.

  • For everyone's safety, the Secret Service and private security will be manning all security points. Therefore, check-in at the registration area and wearing the credential band from that point on is mandatory. You will be required to pass through a magnetometer upon entry into the party. Too much metal or unconcealed metal will cause this process to be lengthy. Please plan your evening attire accordingly. Expect certain areas to be off limits, as is the case for most Presidential events.

  • Virtually every public space in the hotel has been reserved for Black Tie & Boots, so be sure to refer to your program (it will fit in your tux jacket pocket or a purse) to see the various schedules for each room. Besides the Ballroom activities, you won't want to miss the Texas Fair, Lone Star Sports Bar, Hondo Honky Tonk, Cotulla Cantina, and the Muleshoe Cigar & Martini Bar. But if you want to sit down at a table, go to the La Villita Club, The Spindletop Disco, or the Luckenbach Java Lounge.

These are a few of our suggestions designed to make your evening as enjoyable as possible. Please check our website (texasstatesociety.org) for any updates and we will see you on Friday, January 19th in your black tie and boots!!!
