This special Frito Pie Reception will feature a special program to recognize the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Sam Rayburn House Office Building in 1965, on Monday, November 16, 2015, 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. in the Rayburn Foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building.
At 6:00 pm, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis), Dean of the Texas Congressional Delegation, will address the audience, followed by remarks from Julie Merberg (Texas State Society President) and Barry Brown (Chair, Rayburn Commemoration Committee).
The late Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn of Texas is a Texas legend, and he was an active participant in the Texas State Society for 48 years while serving in the House of Representatives. Fifty years ago upon the opening of this building, the Texas State Society proudly donated the statute of the Speaker that still looms large in the entry of the Rayburn Building. The Texas State Society is honored to be a part of this special program a half-century later to once again pay tribute to Mr. Sam and the building that bears his name.
